Summer STEM+ Art Workshops

  • Zines and Material Exploration

    June 28, 2023

    10 AM-12 PM • Suggested Ages 10-16

Zines (pronounced zeen) are arguably one of the most accessible art forms; these tiny, self-published books can be about any topic and be made using a single sheet of paper! This class will explore materials and methods of zine making, including the math behind scoring and folding, so students can become “zinesters” and creatively express themselves! Max participants is 18.

  • Cyanotypes and Scientific Illustrations

    July 26, 2023

    11 AM-1 PM • Suggested Ages 12-18

Cyanotypes are an early form of photography that are famous for their beautiful blue hues. Join us to learn about the light sensitive iron compounds involved, the history of cyanotypes in botany and engineering, and make a few photograms of your own! Max 15 participants.

  • Found Objects and Printmaking

    August 23, 2023

    10 AM-12 PM • Suggested Ages 8-14

There are many different types of printmaking from all over the world, but they all involve putting ink on a surface and pressing it to fibrous material. In this class we’ll get inspired by Japanese gyotaku, or fish printing, and look around our environment for found printing surfaces while learning a little about the technological history of printing. Max 20 participants.
